Roses — How to Keep Roses Fresh in a Vase
Roses are one of the most popular cut flowers, but clean water and regular stem trimming are especially important for keeping them fresh.
How to care for roses in a vase:
- Fill a clean vase with cool water so that about 90% of the stem is in the water. Leaves should never be submerged.
- Add Chrysal according to the instructions on the package.
- Remove any leaves that would sit below the water level.
- Trim the stems with a sharp knife or garden shears at approximately a 45° angle.
- Ideally, trim the stems immediately before placing the roses in water.
- Place the bouquet in a cool location away from direct sunlight.
- Keep roses away from air conditioning airflow, kitchen appliances, and strong drafts.
- Check the water level regularly and top it up with fresh water when needed.
- If the water becomes cloudy, replace it completely, clean the vase, and trim the stems again.
Important: Remove fallen leaves and spent flowers to help keep the water clean and the bouquet looking fresh.
