Ranunculus — How to Care for Ranunculus in a Vase
Ranunculus are especially beautiful as their buds gradually open, layer by layer, over the first few days. To keep them fresh for longer, it is important to protect them from excessive heat and keep the water clean.
How to care for ranunculus:
- Prepare a clean vase with cool water so that about 50% of the stem is in the water.
- Remove any leaves that will be below the water level.
- Trim the stems with a sharp knife or garden shears at approximately a 45° angle.
- Add flower food if it is suitable for the bouquet.
- Place the ranunculus in a cool location away from direct sunlight.
- Keep them away from air conditioning airflow and other sources of heat.
- Monitor the water level and do not allow the stems to dry out.
- If the water becomes dirty, replace it and refresh the stem cuts.
Tip: Ranunculus stems are naturally soft and slightly curved — this is a feature of the flower, not a sign that something is wrong. Handle them gently when arranging.
