Carnations — How to Care for Carnations in a Vase
Carnations are relatively long-lasting cut flowers. Clean water and removing excess foliage from the lower part of the stems are especially important for keeping them fresh.
How to care for carnations:
- Fill a clean vase with cool water so that about 30% of the stem is in the water. Carnations do not need a deep water level.
- Add Chrysal according to the instructions.
- Remove leaves from the lower part of the stems.
- Trim the stems with a sharp tool using a straight cut.
- Place the flowers in a cool location away from direct sunlight.
- Keep the vase away from fruit and vegetables.
- Top up the water as needed.
- If the water becomes cloudy, replace it completely and refresh the stem cuts.
Tip: Carnation stems have visible nodes. When trimming, cut between the nodes rather than directly through one — this helps the stem take up water more easily.
